Active tour is designed to travelers who are looking for the off-beaten tracks and some adventure, apart from the regular tours of visiting monuments/places of interest of respective city.
The tour is focused on various gentle activities such as: Cycling (regular Indian bi-cycle), fishing and canoeing (local canoes), trekking, boat trip in National park, plantation tours and village visit. We have also included a night stay on the Houseboat. The last leg of your tour is thoughtfully to stay in leisure at Kumarakom, to relax and rejuvenate.

Tour Route

COCHIN (ARRIVAL) – KUMBALANGI – MUNNAR – PERIYAR – ALLEPPEY – KUMARAKOM – COCHIN (DEPARTURE)


Accommodations:

07 Nights Hotels + 01 Night camp/tent + 01 Night Houseboat 

Accommodation is provided on twin sharing room with meals as specified in the itinerary. Accommodation at Camp will be in luxury tents with en-suite bath room. We have used two categories of hotels. Standard hotels comprising of 2-3star properties and deluxe hotels with 4-5 star properties. If you prefer hotels other then listed below, please let us know at the time of pricing.

Note: In some places deluxe category hotel is not available, and so standard hotel is used

Travel Criteria:

1) Tent accommodation during trekking will be on twin sharing only.
2) To operate the trip, a minimum of 4 people traveling is required or the expenses could be high.


Footwear

• Trekking/ walking or running shoes (trainers)

• Socks – Cotton. One pair woolen or polypropylene.

Day 1: Arrive Cochin / transfer to hotel (B)

Upon arrival at Cochin, you are met by our company executive and transferred to the hotel. In the afternoon, we will take you out for a walking tour of Cochin, visiting places of interest such as:  Jewish synagogue, Dutch Palace and the Narrow streets of the Jew town, St .Francis church and Chinese fishing nets. In the evening see the famous Kathakali dance.

Day 2: In Cochin / visit to Kumbalangi by Cycle (B,L)

Early this morning, we set off on a cycling tour of Kumbalangi, a model tourist village in the outskirts of Cochin. At the Kumbalangi one can fully savour a variety of natural splendors in the outstanding ecological balance of the location. Kumbalangi has one of the richest aquatic life in and around Cochin. An array of mangroves separate land from water providing a breeding ground for prawns, crabs, oysters and small fishes. During this tour you will indulge in activities such as rowing canoe, catching crabs in traditional method, spread your nets for a catch of fish and other fishing techniques such as cage fishing, Chinese net fishing to name a few. You will also visit Kalagraamam artists' village showcasing the traditional fishing equipment and handicrafts of the region. Transfer back to the hotel.

Day 3:
Cochin to Munnar [65kms/2.0hrs] (B)

Spectacular drive brings us to Munnar hill station, surrounded by lush green tea estates, this picturesque hill station boasts of exotic flora and fauna. Upon arrival check into hotel and the evening is at leisure to absorb the beauty of this hill station.

Day 4: In Munnar / trekking by Kalypso Adventure (B/L/D)

Being mountainous and scenic, Munnar is one of the best trekking destination for travelers to Kerala. We can start the trek from Chinnakanal, nestled amidst the tea gardens. You have a decent walk ahead, climbing gradually until you reach the camp site at over 1600m. The trek passes through mountainous terrains and will reach the Anaerangal camp site at Suryanelli – enchanting and enriched with the scenic western mountain ranges.

Day 5: Munnar to Periyar [130kms/3.0hrs] (B/L)

After breakfast, start the trek from the camp and move through the forests to the edge of the Anaerangal Lake. Snaking across a large area, this lake is placid and beautiful and a source of water for farmers downstream. Many tribal colonies here farm spices and cardamom, which grow abundantly in the salubrious climate here. The trek ends with a picnic lunch and then we drive to Periyar.

Day 6: In Periyar (B)

Morning at leisure, including a nice Plantation tour to the nearby gardens. A guide accompanies you on this tour to explain about various spices and their preservations and processing system. You can also shop around some of the best available spices of this region, which can be a good gift to friends and family back home. In the evening at around 3.30pm, we depart for the most popular boat trip of Periyar National Park. The best way to observe game in wild is by boat. There are many animals to see, including herds of elephants, bisons and packs of wild boars that roam through the woods and parade along the shores of the lake just before sunrise and sunset.
Overnight in hotel in Periyar or Thekkady.

 

Day 7: Periyar to Alleppey/Backwaters [140kms/3.5hrs] (B/L/D)

After breakfast, drive to Alleppey, the land of backwaters. On arrival, board a private House Boat that is waiting to take you on a tour through the backwaters of Alleppey, a splendid area full of canals, lakes and coves. Very interestingly you get to see the lifestyle of people on the water. People here sail, fish, swim and bathe here. They do their washing and their washing-up. They are so adapted to the water that, you can see people talking for an hour, while they are up to their necks in water.
Onboard Houseboat with all meals.

 

Day 8: Disembark at Kumarakom (B)

After breakfast on the house boat, disembark at Kumarakom around 10am and transfer to the hotel. Kumarakom is enchanting backwater destination with clusters of little islands on the Vembanad Lake. Kumarakom strengthens Kerala's reputation for being God’s own country with its unbelievably beautiful mangrove forests, coconut groves and emerald green paddy fields interspersed with enchanting waterways and canals. Rest of the day is free to rest in your hotel or take optional trips to nearby places according to your interests. Kumarakom is one of the best places in Kerala to experience good traditional Kerala Ayurveda.

Day 9: In Kumarakom / leisure (B/D)

Another day at leisure/free for own activities.  Stay by the resort and relax/rejuvenate.

Day 10: Departure transfer / Tour End (B)

Check out from hotel according to flight timing and the tour ends today with a departure transfer to Cochin airport for onward flight.
