Turn your idea, of India being the land of ancient temples thick with incense and chanting masses worshipping deities covered with vermilion paste and marigolds, into reality by taking the extension tour to Tamilnadu. Tamil Nadu is the Hindu heartland, home of Dravidians, one of oldest civilizations. It is a land of enduring heritage, rich in culture, temples, monuments, art and architecture. Starting in Chennai, the capital city, our tour visits temple city of Kanchipuram, along the way to Mahabalipuram. Apart from the temple visits, we also include an interesting tour to see Silk Saree Weaving by local families. In the laid back beach town of Mamallapuram (Mahabalipuram), tour and visit world heritage monolithic shrines and rock-cut sea-front temples. Then we drive south to Thanjuvur or Thanjore, stopping en-route to see the Chola temples near Kumbakonam. At Tanjore, wel visit the world heritage listed Brihadeshara temple and a sprawling Maratha Palace complex. From Tanjore, Trichy is a short 1-2 hours drive and here we visit colossal Rock Fort among other temples and sites. And finally our trip ends in Madurai, easily the 'Number One' in temple destination with its awe-inspiring Sri Meenakshi temple complex. From Madurai, you can fly to Chennai, Mumbai and Bangalore, which are further connected to other destinations. Or take an overland tour of Kerala.

Itinerary in Details
Day 1: Arrive in Chennai (Madras)
Upon arrival at Chennai airport, you are met by our tour executive and transferred to the hotel. In the afternoon, visit Government museum, St.Thomas Church, Kapaleshwar Temple, Fort St. George & Museum and finally visit to the chennai boast Marina beach.
Overnight in Chennai, Le Royal Meridien Chennai.

Day 2: Chennai to Mamallapuram via Kanchipuram (B/L)
After breakfast drive to Mammallapuram via Kanchipuram. At Kanchipuram, visit Varadaraja Perumal temple, Ekambareshwar temple, and Kailasanathar temple. After lunch at one of the heritage home “Kanchikudil”, visit a Silk Saree Weaving in local family home. Continue to the laid-back beach town of Mamallapuram. Check into your hotel. Later visit The Arjuna`s Penance (Bass Relief), the Five rathas and the famous Shore temple. Depending on available time, visit other cave temples. Free evening to rest or leisure on the beach.

Day 3: Mamllapuram to Tanjore Via. Kumbakonam (B)
After breakfast drive to Tanjore. En-route visit temples of Gangaikonda Cholapuram and Darasuram near Kumbakonam. Upon arrival in Tanjore (Thanjavur), check in to you hotel. Later visit a World Heritage Brihadeshwara temple and the Royal Palace Museum.
Overnight in Thanjavur, Hotel Parisutham.

Day 4: Tanjore to Trichy (B)
Drive for about 1.5 hr to Trichy situated on the banks of river Cauvery. Enroute visit a small village where you get to see people working on glass painting & Bronze statue making. Upon arrival, visit Sriranganathaswami temple at Srirangam and Sri Jambukeshwara Temple at Thivanaikoil. Later, visit the Rock Fort temple and free evening to stroll around.
Overnight in Trichy, Hotel Sangam.

Day 5: Trichy to Madurai (B)
Drive for about 3 hours to Madurai, home of Shree Meenakshi temple. Upon arrival, check into hotel and later visit Meenakshy temple and Tirumalai Nayak Palace. Return to hotel and after dinner once again visit Meenakshi temple to see the evening ritual, when the goddess Meenakshi and groom Sundareshvara are ceremoniously carried out and brought together for evening of celestial fornication.
